Quilts
I also specialize in
custom quilts. If you have collected vintage embroidery from
your mother or grandmother, or if you have pieced a quilt top
and want it quilted, I can make your dream quilt a reality. Here
are several photos of quilts I have made for my customers. They
range from vintage embroidered squares in the center of the blue
quilt featured, to shades of lavender and green (another
customer's preference). The latter customer gave me "free rein"
to interpret whatever style would work best with those colors.
I
can also provide materials for your quilt. I do prefer to
provide my own quilt batting, as I have used Warm & White brand
batting for over 10 years. Warm & White is a blend of mostly
cotton & a very small amount of polyester batting, which is very
thin but it "breathes" no matter what season you use your quilt.
In
a nutshell, here are my current prices for quilt materials (as
of 4/21/12):
Warm & White 90" wide quilt batting: $12.25/yard
Moda Marbles, 44/45" wide, 100% cotton fabric: $10.95/yard
Moda 200-Thread Count Bleached or Unbleached Muslin, 90" wide:
$11.95/yard
My
customers like the idea of choosing fabrics here at the studio,
as it does simplify things quite a bit.
As
you have probably heard, the cotton industry is going through
some major changes at this time. If my suppliers adjust their
prices the next time I place an order, I will update the
information here as well.
As
far as my quilting labor fees to make your quilt, my fees --
which merely give you a ball park idea -- are ESTIMATES ONLY --
without being given any specific quilt plans are as follows:
Baby Quilts (approx. 48" square) depending on just what you want
featured in the quilt: $100-$200
Twin-size bed quilt, 65"W x 88"L (13" drop, to be used with a
dust ruffle and does not cover the bed pillows): $225 and up
Standard bed quilt, 80"W x 88"L (13" drop, to be
used with a dust ruffle and does not cover the bed pillows):
$375 and up
Queen-size bed quilt, 86"W x 93"L (13" drop, to be used with a
dust ruffle and does not cover the bed pillows): $475 and up
King-size bed quilt, 104"W x 93"L (13" drop, to be used with a
dust ruffle and does not cover the bed pillows): $625 and up
Materials (batting, backing & any quilt top fabrics, along
with binding fabric), if I provide them, will be in addition to my labor
as listed above.

I
was honored to create a newborn's custom quilt, which features
the baby's name in large embroidered letters for the center of
the quilt top. I added the footprints beneath the name, because,
as you can see on the reverse side, the scrubs top, which the
baby's father wore when he was born, also includes the baby's
footprints. I embroidered the baby's name, birthdate, weight,
height, etc. on the other side of the scrubs top. This way, I
was able to incorporate the scrubs top as the quilt label
itself. The quilt was featured at the newborn's baptism this
past January, 2011.
I
was asked to create three childrens' camo quilts, which were
made from their uncle's 2 military-issued camo suits. I cut up
the suits, added some additional fabrics from my inventory, and
I even added the patch pocket to the back side of each of the 3
quilts. I removed the buttons from each large pocket and
replaced the closure with velcro. Each nephew & niece will be
able to put their keepsakes in the pocket. Their grandmother's
idea was to add the loop at the top corner, so each child would
be able to grab their quilt off of the wall peg. The squares
each measure 10"; I placed fabrics in an improvised checkerboard
pattern. I embroidered each grandchild's first name on the
corner squares, so each one knows whose quilt is whose. The
uniform's labels were also sewn on the embroidered name squares.
These are truly keepsake quilts!
Twisted Sisters Quilt, queen size, finished in April, 2010.
Reproduction fabrics were used for the quilt top, binding and
backing. An overall meandering stitch was quilted on the quilt
top; a butterly design was used in the wide borders. Here are
closeups of the border, individual square and a general view of
the quilt top. Matching pillow cases were also made to be used
with the bed quilt.
This is what I call the "M" Quilt. The customer had cut out the
center diamond and wanted the largest "M" I could digitize for
the center. The "M" ended up being 12" tall by 8" wide. This was
one of my most challenging requests. The digitizing didn't take
that long to accomplish, but the stitchout took approximately
4-1/2 hours... 225,000 stitches! The customer then took the
finished center diamond and finished piecing the quilt. I have
photos showing both the center and the finished quilt. The
lady's granddaughter was thrilled to receive her quilt! |
